How to Cram for the SAT 10-Day, 200-Point Prep Plan

How to Cram for the SAT 10-Day, 200-Point Prep Plan SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips If you’re reading this guide, I’m going to assume you don’t have a lot of time before your SAT test date. If you do have a lot of time before your SAT test date (one month or more), feel free to read this article for useful tips, but I urge you to spread your prep out over the full amount of time you have. Do not wait to cram. The total amount of time spent preparing for the SAT matters, and though you can make great strides in just 10 days, you still need to put in the time. I’ll guide you through the steps to successfully cram for the SAT and raise your score by up to 200 points. WARNING: You should not use this SAT cram guide unless absolutely necessary. If you'll have the chance to take the SAT another time, after this test, I recommend doing quick basic preparation for this test date (following the beginning of this guide) and then do a more extensive study program for the next test date. Consider trying PrepScholar or another prep program before your next SAT test date. If you decide to use this cramming study guide, it is a very ambitious plan that requires tremendous dedication to be successful. All that being said, if you do decide to follow this plan, I've outlined two preliminary steps below, followed by the fast SAT prep plan itself. Print Your Practice Material All of the new SAT practice tests created by the College Board are currently available online for free. Print yourself copies of the first four of these free SAT PDFs. I’ll tell you how/when to use them below. Create a Schedule You need to create a strict study schedule and stick to it. With only 10 days to get a 200 point score increase, 30 minutes per day is not going to do it. Here at PrepScholar, we recommend fitting in about 80 hours of preparation if you’re hoping for a 200 point score improvement. You need to compress that study schedule into 10 days. Although fitting in 80 hours will be nearly impossible in 10 days (especially if you have school), you probably don’t need quite that much time since cramming gives you the advantage of not losing your muscle memory for test techniques. I’ve created a sample schedule below that fits in 55 hours of prep into the 10 days before the test. Day # of Hours to Study Wednesday 5 Thursday 5.5 Friday 5.5 Saturday 9 Sunday 10 Monday 5 Tuesday 5 Wednesday 5 Thursday 5 Friday 0 Saturday 0- Take the Test! If you’re on summer vacation, great: you’ll have plenty of free time to commit to this schedule. If you’re attempting to do fast prep during the school year, however, you’ll need to prioritize your SAT prep above all else. It’s only for 10 days! I’ve outlined the plan for each day below. 10-Day Prep Plan Before starting this plan, read through what you'll need for each day (both in terms of time and materials). You don't want to block out six hours of study time only to realize that you've left your graphing calculator at school. Note: This study plan is tailored to students taking the Saturday SAT. If you'll be taking the SAT on a Sunday or during the week in school, you may have to move around the hours for some of the days so that you don't end up having to study for 10 hours on a schoolday. Day 1: Wednesday- 5-5.5 Hours Goals for the day: Familiarize yourself with the test format, pick a target score, and take a practice test. Familiarize Yourself With the Test Format- 15 Minutes Knowing the test format will be a huge advantage when you take the test, I recommend you read through these guides: New SAT in 2016: Reading Section What's Actually Tested on SAT Math? How Do You Calculate SAT Score? Raw and Scaled By the end of reading these guides, you’ll have a basic familiarity with what’s tested on both sections of the test and how your final score is calculated, which is important to know in order to understand SAT strategy. Pick a Target Score- 30 Minutes If you haven’t already, you need to figure out your target score. I won’t go into depth here because we’ve already got another great guide on picking your target score for your college. However, the short explanation of how to pick your target score is to aim for a score at or above the 75th percentile score for admits at your target school. Having a target score will help you stay motivated during your 10 days of preparation. Write the number somewhere important like on your desk, and tell your parents your target score. Putting it out there will make you more motivated to reach it. Take a Practice Test- 3 Hours 45 Minutes Take your first practice test using one of these free SAT PDFs. Make sure to use one of the most recent tests, so your practice test is as similar as possible to your actual SAT test. Stick to the exact timing. Each section will have the timing listed at the start of the section. Try to imitate the testing conditions. Find a quiet space where you can be alone. Review and Analyze Your Practice Test- 1 Hour Once you’ve completed your practice test, review your practice test following the steps outlined in this guide and grade your essay using the SAT essay rubric. Analyze your test after you’ve reviewed: Which section was your weakest? Why was it your weakest? Were your issues mainly not understanding the content or did you make more careless errors? Did you not understand the questions? Did you run out of time? If you cannot readily identify your weakest section (i.e. if your Math and Evidence-based Reading and Writing scores were similar), you should try to identify the one in which you got the most questions wrong because you did not understand the content or information necessary to answer the question. Content issues are impossible to overcome without studying, yet they are the easiest mistake type to fix because all you need to do is simply learn the necessary content. You need to start by identifying your weakest section because that is what you'll prioritize in your study. You’ll still learn the techniques/strategies for each section, but you should begin with your weakest section. Day 2: Thursday- 5.5 Hours Goals for the day: Learn the strategies for your weakest section and try to apply them to a practice test. You should have identified your weakest section yesterday. Today, you’ll learn the strategies for that section and practice applying them. I’m providing links to all of the guides you should read to help with strategy and content knowledge for your weakest section. It’s a lot of material, so try to prioritize the topics within each section that you need the most help in (for example, sentence completion in the Critical Reading section). If there is a topic you aren't missing any questions on, don't bother reading that guide now. For example, if you aren't missing any triangle questions, you should not read the triangle guide. Prioritize the guides: start with the overall strategies, then check out guides on your weakest content areas (for example, if you got all of the circle questions wrong in the Math section, start by reading the circle question article). If you don’t have time to read it all in two hours, don’t worry, simply bookmark the articles you didn’t get to read. I set aside time another day in the schedule to review the rest of the articles. Learn the Strategies- 3 Hours Evidence-Based Reading and Writing Section Writing Test Every SAT Grammar Rule You Need to Know Misplaced and Dangling Modifiers Parallelism Fragments and Run-Ons Pronoun Case Pronoun Agreement Relative Pronouns Verb Tenses and Forms Subject-Verb Agreement Faulty Comparisons Wordiness and Redundancy Idioms Parts of Speech Reading Test The Best Way to Read the Passage in SAT Reading Big Picture Questions Little Picture / Detail Vocab in Context Questions Inference Questions Function Questions Author Technique Questions How To Attack Paired Passages On SAT Reading Math Section Overall Strategy The Critical SAT Math Formulas You MUST Know How to Actually Use Your SAT Math Formulas Plugging in Numbers: A Critical SAT/ACT Math Strategy Plugging in Answers: A Critical SAT Math/ACT Math Strategy Content Specific Guides Heart of Algebra / Passport to Advanced Math Systems of Equations in SAT Math: Algebra Prep and Practice Functions on SAT Math: Linear, Quadratic, and Algebraic Single Variable Equations on SAT Math: Complete Strategies Problem Solving and Data Analysis Complete Guide to Fractions and Ratios on SAT Math Statistics on SAT Math: Strategies for Mean, Median, Mode Complete Guide to Probability on SAT Math + Practice Questions Additional Topics: Geometry, Basic Trigonometry, and Complex Numbers Coordinate Geometry and Points on SAT Math: Complete Guide Reflections, Translations, and Rotations on SAT Math: Coordinate Geometry Guide Triangles and Polygons on SAT Math: Strategies and Practice Questions for Geometry Lines and Slopes in SAT Math: Geometry Strategies Circles on SAT Math: Formulas, Review, and Practice Lines and Angles in SAT Math: Prep and Review Solid Geometry on SAT Math: The Complete Guide Take and Review a Practice Section- 2.5 Hours For your weakest section, sit for a 1 hour 40 minute or 1 hour 20 minute practice session, completing every section of that type from a given test (if you're taking the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section DO NOT include the Essay). The essay is not factored into your composite score, so I do not recommend you waste time practicing it after your first practice test. Use the second test of these free SAT PDFs. After you’ve taken the section, review using the steps outlined in our other guide that you used for your first practice test. See what areas you’ve improved in and what still needs work. Day 3: Friday- 5.5 Hours Goals for the day: Learn the strategies for your strongest section and try to apply them to a practice test. Learn More Section Strategy- 3 Hours Learn the section strategy for the other section (your stronger section, Math or Evidence-Based Reading and Writing) and read all of the articles listed above for that section. If you’re already doing extremely well in the section you’re focusing on today (you scored over 650 on your first practice test), I’d encourage you to use one of the following guides for your study instead of the previously listed guides: For Evidence-Based Reading and Writing How to Get a Perfect Score on SAT Reading How to Get a Perfect Score on SAT Writing For Math How to Get an 800 on SAT Math Take and Review a Practice Section- 2.5 Hours For the section you’ve chosen, sit for another 1 hour 20 minute or 1 hour 40 minute practice session. Make sure to use the section from the same test (the second test) you did a section from yesterday. That way, you can save your complete practice tests for use later in the week. After you’ve taken the section, review using the steps outlined in our other guide. Day 4: Saturday- 8-9 Hours Goals for the day: Complete your strategy learning by going back and covering the strategies for your weakest section. Take and review a practice test. Learn More Section Strategy for Your Weakest Section- 3 Hours Go back to your weakest section and finishing reading all of the section strategy articles listed above (if you haven’t finished reading them). If you’re still struggling to get your score close to a 600, I’d recommend consulting one of the following guides in addition to the other guides: For Evidence-Based Reading and Writing: How to Improve Your Low Reading Score How to Improve Your Low SAT Writing Score For Math: How to Improve Your Low SAT Math Score to a 600 Take Your Second Full-Length Practice Test- 3 Hours Use a brand new (not used) full-length practice test the third test from these free SAT PDFs. NOTE: skip the essay section since it doesn't count towards your composite score. As you did for the first test, stick to the exact timing. Each section will have the timing listed at the start of the section. Copy the normal testing conditions as best you can. Review and Analyze Your Second Practice Test- 2-3 Hours As always, review your answers, if you still need to reference our other guide, I’ve provided the link. Take the time to compare the results to your other tests. Did you improve? In what areas are you still struggling? Go back and review the guides if necessary. Day 5: Sunday- 10 Hours Goals for the day: Complete your final practice test, review, and determine where you still need improvement. Take Your Third Full-Length Practice Test- 3 Hours Use a brand new (not used) full-length practice test the fourth of these free SAT PDFs. NOTE: skip the essay section since it doesn't count towards your composite score. As you did for the first test, stick to the exact timing. Each section will have the timing listed at the start of the section. Copy the normal testing conditions as best you can. Review and Analyze Your Second Practice Test- 2 Hours As always, review your answers, if you still need to reference our other guide, I’ve provided the link. Take the time to compare the results to your other tests. Did you improve? In what areas are you still struggling? Topic Refresher- 4-5 Hours Go back to the articles listed above and re-read those for the topics in which you’re still struggling. Create flashcards if you need more help memorizing grammar rules or math formulas and test yourself with them. If you’re close to mastering all of the sections (scoring 650 or above), check out these guides to study some of the toughest questions: The 13 Hardest SAT Math Questions Ever How to Get an 800 on SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing Day 6-9: Monday-Thursday- 5 Hours Per Day Each day, go back and review your mistakes from one of your practice tests. Since there are four days and four practice tests, you should be reviewing one test per day. I recommend rewriting the questions you missed on a separate sheet of paper (or printing out a new copy of the test) and attempting to answer the questions again. If you answer correctly, move on. If you're still answering the question incorrectly, ask yourself why you got it wrong? Is there a specific subject area that you're not very knowledgeable about? Again, refer back to our other articles for help in any areas that you haven't fully mastered. You can also try out some official topic-specific practice problems at Khan Academy. These can help you hone the skills you're still struggling with. Day 10: Friday- 0 Hours Relax! You've put in the work. I recommend taking the day before off to let your mind rest and process everything you've done. Exercise, eat healthy meals, and go to bed early. Try to get a full eight hours. Be sure to pack your test ticket, calculator, pencils, erasers, extra batteries, snacks, etc. the night before, so you’re not scrambling the morning of the test. Day : Saturday- 0 Hours Take the test! Wake up at least an hour before you need to leave for your testing center. This way you’ll have plenty of time to eat a big breakfast. Read the newspaper or a book to get your brain going. Relax! You’ve put in the work! Now is your time to shine! What’s Next? How do you figure out which college is right for you? Strategic planning Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Strategic planning - Research Paper Example Why Do Strategic Planning? Failing to make plans means making plans for failure – as the old saying goes. Having a strategic plan means an improvement in performance in whichever undertaking a person involves himself or herself into; you cannot fail if you have a clearly defined roadmap to your desired destination. Another reason to make strategic plans is for the sake of avoiding short-term as well as inward thinking. It also enables a person, an organization or a company to be able to come up with solutions to various major issues at macro levels. Finally, having a strategic plan means the ability to have the ability to communicate to everyone concerned about an issue, the most important or vital elements or aspects about an issue. When planning strategically, there are questions a person needs to ask himself, or herself. Some of these questions include: Where is locus at this point in time? – assessment Which point do we desire to be? This is the future state or the state we will be at the end of it all How do we hope to close the gap between our present state and our end state? This is where the strategic plan comes into place How do we plan to monitor our progress? This involves the balanced scorecard While choosing or coming up with a strategic plan for the endeavors we engage in, it is prudent to keep in mind the fact that for a strategic plan to be considered good, it should†¦ Be able to address issues of critical performance Be able to create the right and desired balance in between the abilities of the organization, and the desires of the organization Be able to span a considerable period in time in order to close down the performance gap Be a visionary strategic plan. This means it should be able to convey an and state the way it is desired form the beginning Be flexible. This means that the strategic plan should accommodate and allow for change Guide the decision making in the operational, individual, and tactical lower levels of the organization or institution There are quite a number of strategic planning model. The model I choose for the purposes of this paper and assignment is the ABCDE strategic planning model. ABCDE is an acronym that stands for Assessment, baseline, Components, Down to specifics, Evaluate. Before getting started on the strategic planning tasks and activities, there are pre-requisites to the planning steps. These include: Find out if or whether the senior leadership is committed enough to go through with the strategic process. Find out who will be tasked to do what? Find out the activities and the responsibilities each group will be tasked to do Figure out which methods will be used to handle tasks Find out the best time to do tasks Features of the ABCDE Strategic Planning Model ASSESSMENT This involves engaging in a SWOT analysis to find out your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, as well as the threats to the task you would like to engage in. The SWOT analysis best handles assessm ent because of the ease in understanding associated with it. Additionally, SWOT can be applied at any level of the organization in charge of the strategic planning. When saying strengths, I mean the things that you, as an organization or as an individual can be able to perform well in; points of strength. On the other hand, weaknesses are the obstacles to the path that leads to the destination. These may be such things as bad leadership or lack of it at

Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice - Essay Example e status of vasectomy via interviews; most of the interviews involved telephoning, administration of questionnaires, the use of the healthcare centres registries, as well as the physical interview by nurses. Among the participants of the research included patients that had experienced the vas deferens’ surgical operation. In order to control the cases study various controls were taken into account; these included individuals that were diagnosed with skin and lung cancer. Other conditions such as digestive disorders and rehabilitation problems, as well as the neighbours of the patients were also treated as the controls of the case study (Bernal, Latour and Gomez, 2012). However, as regards they made decisions regarding the relevance of the primary studies, Bernal, Latour and Gomez (2012) do not point out the modality of selecting the papers for a review. The quality of the methodology was evaluated by taking into consideration a number of threats that are likely to be absent or present with respect to the validity. Among the threats included misclassifying of a disease and inadequacy of selecting the controls. Bernal, Latour and Gomez (2012) carried out an observation on a population of 221,238. Out of this population, 14,334 were categorized under case-control studies, while 206,904 fell under the cohort studies; there were nine case-control studies, and five cohort studies. Following the research, Bernal, Latour and Gomez (2012) claimed that the experimental evidence that was attained regarding the relationship between prostate cancer and vasectomy was characterized by a low level of quality. It was identified that there are several biases with respect to the sources; the sources attempted to overestimate the effect of vasectomy. In this respect, the evidence that was experienced does not advocate for a change in the family planning; this is due to lack of justified evidence. Similarly, the evidence does not indicate whether individuals who have experienced

Endometrial Cance Essay Example for Free

Endometrial Cance Essay This cancer mainly has the supported information of how it happens, where it happens in the body, how can it be treated, and who to turn to when one needs help. Endometrial cancer is found in the endometrium, which is the lining of the uterus. The endometrium is found in a woman’s pelvic area and is where a fetus grows until birth. Endometrial cancer occurs when cells of the endometrium begin to grow and multiply without the control mechanisms that normally limit their growth. As the cells grow, they form a tumor. (Endometrial Cancer PubMed Health. , 2012) The exact cause of endometrial cancer is unknown, but there are many risk factors that lead to what causes it to grow rapidly, killing off thousands of women each year. Endometrial cancer is usually found in women in between the ages of 50 and 60. Women, who are obese, fifty pounds over their ideal weight, are ten times greater at risk than women that are not obese. Body fat produces estrogen and the higher level of estrogen are believed to increase the risk of cancer. This is believed because women with excess fat have higher levels of estrogen. Women that have not been pregnant are at three times higher risk. Women who have their periods before the age of twelve are at an increased risk because early puberty increases the number of years that the endometrium is exposed to higher levels of estrogens. (Endometrial Cancer PubMed Health. , 2012). A woman who goes through menopause after the age of fifty-two, which is called late menopause, actually increases the number of years that the endometrium is exposed to estrogen. To all cancers there are symptoms that may be long term or short term. In endometrial cancer, the most common symptoms are abnormal bleeding from the vagina. (Cervical Cancer, 2013). Abnormal bleeding happens during menopause, which makes it harder to determine if something is wrong. During menopause, the menstrual period should become shorter, and the frequency should become farther apart. If there were to be any uncommon bleeding, it should be reported to a physician. Pelvic pain, swelling or lumps in the pelvic area, and weight loss are symptoms that are less common and would indicate advanced cancer. The staging system that is used for endometrial cancer was developed by the international Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics. Staging is used to classify the cancer based on how extent the disease is. In endometrial cancer, staging is mostly based on how far the main tumor has spread. There are four stages as follows: Stage I: The tumor is limited to the upper part of the uterus and has not spread to the surrounding lymph nodes or other organs. Stage IA: Tumor limited to the endometrium or less than one half of the myometrium. Stage IB: Invasion equal to or more than one half the myometrium (middle layer of the uterine wall) Stage II: Invasion of the cervical stroma but does not extend beyond the uterus (strong supportive connective tissues of the cervix) Stage IIIA: Invasion of the serosa (outermost layer of the myometrium) and/or the adnexa (the ovaries or fallopian tubes) Stage IIIB: Invasion of the vagina and/or parametrical involvement Stage IIIC1: Cancer has spread to the pelvic lymph nodes but not to distant organs Stage IIIC2: Cancer has spread to the par aortic lymph nodes with or without positive pelvic lymph nodes but not too distant organs Stage IV: The cancer has spread to the inside of the bladder or the rectum and/or to the inguinal lymph nodes and/or to the bones or distant organs outside the pelvis, such as the lungs. Stage IVA: Tumor invasion of the bladder, the bowel mucosa, or both Stage IVB: Metastasis to distant organs, including intra-abdominal metastasis, and/or inguinal lymph nodes (Endometrial Cancer PubMed Health. , 2012). There are treatments for endometrial cancer, but it depends on the stage of the cancer. There is an initial surgery that has to be done, which involves removing the entire uterus and cervix, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. After this surgery is done staging is determined. After the staging is determined, only then will there be a treatment by a physician. Surgery is the main form of treatment for endometrial cancer, but there are other options. There is radiation therapy, but this is used for stages two, three, and four. It is given to kill any cancer cells remaining in the body. Chemotherapy is another option and drugs are used to kill cancer cells. The advantage of this option is that the chemicals can attack cancer cells anywhere in the body. The disadvantage of this option is that the side effects include nausea, hair loss, fatigue, anemia, infections, and damage to organs like the kidneys. This therapy is mainly used for advanced endometrial cancer. (Endometrial Cancer PubMed Health. , 2012). The last option would be hormone therapy, which uses hormones to fight cancer cells. This is only used in advanced and metastatic endometrial cancer. If endometrial cancer is determined, there should be foods in the individual’s diet to avoid. Many w omen with this condition can improve their symptoms by just controlling their diet. When this diet is created, the main goal is to eliminate foods that increase stimulated estrogen, prostaglandins. There are ten foods to avoid following an endometriosis diet. The first food to avoid is sugar. Sugar can produce an acidic environment within the body, which produces more pain of endometriosis. Wheat should be avoided because it contains phytic acid, which aggravates symptoms. Soy products contain phytic acid and irritate the digestive system and reduce mineral absorption. Caffeine increase estrogen levels and estrogen triggers endometriosis flare ups. When you consume more than two cups of coffee a day, estrogen levels are caused to rise. Alcohol should be avoided because vitamin B from the liver is being destroyed. The liver is needed to clear out the excess estrogen to control the cancer. Dairy products, mostly milk and cheese, should be avoided because they aggravate the symptoms also. Red meat contains growth hormones that include estrogen, so this should also be avoided. Saturated fats and oils are high in fatty acids that stimulate production of hormone levels. Foods like butter, margarine, lard, organ meats, and fried foods are high in saturated fats and oils. Another group of food that should be avoided is refined carbohydrates. This includes white bread, pasta, flour, pastry, cakes, etc. These should be avoided because most of their natural nutrients are removed, which leads to increase endometriosis symptoms. The last groups of food that should be avoided are additives and preservatives. This includes processed, frozen, and pre-packaged foods. (Nutrition Facts, 2012) There are not many alternatives for this type of cancer. This is said because there is strictly surgery that has to be done before anything else can happen. This surgery then leads to the treatment for the individual that has the cancer. (Endometrial Cancer PubMed Health. , 2012) In every cancer, you have a statically breakdown of how many people have survived or died from a certain type of cancer. My statically breakdown is involved mostly with women, because no man can get the cancer. Endometrial cancer is usually diagnosed at an early stage. â€Å"The one year survival rate is about 92%. The five year survival rate for this cancer that has not spread is 95%. If the cancer has spread to distant organs, the five year survival rate drops to 23%. Survival rates for African American women are 10% lower than that of white females for every stage† (ncbi. nlm. nih. gov). In conclusion, most women who have endometrial cancer are cured. There are many women who die from the emotional part of obtaining the cancer. Many women would feel anxious and depressed. There are many support and counseling groups that are concerned with the individual’s feelings. Friends and family members should be very supportive and the individual that has obtained the cancer should not be hesitant to bring the topic up to close friends or family. It is amazing how many people are helped through their cancer by just talking out the worries or concerns they may have. My opinion about endometrial cancer is that it should not be taken as a joke. This is something serious that affects 200,000 women each year from their day to day life. I never knew this cancer existed until I conducted research for an original cancer. This cancer is something that will affect many people in the future if prevention actions are not taken. References Endometrial Cancer PubMed Health. Transvestic Fetishism :: science

Transvestic Fetishism Introduction Someone you know-any male close to you-could be having a secret "affair" behind closed doors and you may not even be aware of it. Not to worry, it may not involve another woman. This man may be having an affair with female clothing. If so, it is safe to say that this man is suffering from a transvestic fetish. What is a transvestic fetish? Transvestic Fetishism is a psychosexual disorder found mostly in men. To better understand this disorder, we must first look at the definition. Transvestism is defined as dressing in the clothing of the opposite sex to achieve sexual arousal, excitement, and gratification. Fetishism is the reliance on nonhuman objects as the preferred or exclusive method of achieving sexual excitement. The major symptom of fetishism is the use of nonliving objects to obtain sexual arousal. The most common fetish objects are articles of women's clothing such as bras, underpants, stockings, shoes and boots. The individual will often masturbate while fondling, kissing, or smelling the fetish object. In other cases, the individual's sexual partner will wear the object during sexual encounters, thereby providing an arousing stimulus that enables the fetishist to participate in otherwise normal sexual behavior. Thus, men suffering from transvestic fetishism gain sexual pleasure from dressing in women's clo thing, a behavior defined as cross-dressing. Cross-dressing can range from wearing only one article of women's clothing while alone to dressing completely in women's clothing and appearing that way in public. In some cases, the cross-dressing is so effective that it is difficult to distinguish a cross-dressed transvestite from a woman. However, the person's goal is not to "pass" but to achieve arousal. Cross-dressing seems to be exclusively male behavior, and there is really no explanation for it. There is no evidence of any hormonal or genetic abnormality. One explanation is that childhood experience with cross-dressing may have been associated with sexual play and arousal. One sample of transvestites found that 78 percent were either married or formerly married, and marital friction is one of the main reasons that transvestites seek therapy. A man with a transvestic fetish will often masturbate while dressed in women's clothes and will fantasize about other men being attracted to him while he is dressed in those clothes. In a very limited number of cases, homosexuals may cross-dress to attract other men, but the homosexuals do not gain sexual pleasure from the cross-dressing and are therefore not diagnosed as having a transvestic fetishism.

How does the director create a sense of chaos and frenzy in the scene leading up to Simon’s death? – The Lord of the Flies film

The â€Å"Lord of the Flies† film, which I am studying, was made in the 1960s. The director of this film made it in black and white for effect. In my essay I will be focusing on how the director's use of pictures and sounds help to recreate the sense of chaos that can be found in the book. In conclusion to my essay I will write about my personal opinion on whether the director has succeeded or failed in creating the same sense of frenzy and chaos, which is created in the book. The director uses images and camera techniques in Simon's death sequence to help the film relate to Simon's death in the book. He manages to do this in many ways, such as making it seem as if you are in between the boys, and that you are actually there witnessing what is about to happen. He also uses shots that look up and down to great effect which exaggerate Jack's authority and leadership of the boys, and make Simon seem insignificant to the boys. I will now give you a detailed analysis of how the director uses images and camera techniques in Simon's death sequence. Firstly, there is a close up of a boy's head, which cuts to a fire sending sparks flying off into the night. There is then a long shot of the fire with the boys dancing around it. The director has made it so that the audience do not know who each of the boys are. The camera then zooms into a medium shot of the boys, still dancing around the fire, as if they are celebrating. The camera then cuts to a boy, who runs to the edge of the shoreline carrying a flaming branch. The boy then swings this ‘torch' around and flings it into the ocean. The camera sweeps along the shoreline following the ‘torch' as it flies through the air. The director uses this image to indicate to the audience that the boys are becoming more dangerous. Just before the ‘torch' hits the ocean, a wave rushes upwards and engulfs it. The camera then cuts to a boy who kicks the fire. Again, the director uses this to make the scene more violent and dangerous. The audience still can't see the boy's face. The camera then cuts to a close up of the fire sending sparks flying up into the night. There is then a shot of the full moon, which immediately makes the audience think that something horrific is going to happen. The moon is also slightly out of focus. The camera then cuts to a series of close up shots of the boys screaming and shouting. The boys' faces are in shadow so that the audience cannot see them. There is then a medium shot of the boys, still unrecognisable, silhouetted against the fire. The camera then cuts to a medium shot of the boys chanting and banging their spears on the ground. The audience recognize Ralph within their ranks symbolising mankind's ultimate decent into savagery, a theme that Golding uses many a time in the novel. The camera remains still as the boys march past it, as though they are soldiers on parade. The boys then become frantic and there are continuous extreme close ups of arms, legs, cheeks but never a full face or body. These shots are generally out of focus and give the effect that you are actually there with the boys banging into you and running about. There is a medium shot of the boys becoming more and more frantic because the darkness is becoming unbearable and the boys are being overcome with a faint madness. There is then a close up of a boy's face, which is unrecognisable. The camera then cuts to a medium shot of Simon, making his way through the jungle. He is pushing leaves away so that he can make it to the beach as soon as possible. The camera then cuts to another medium shot of another boy, which it appears could be Jack, but he is still partly in shadow. When we see ‘Jack' the camera is looking upwards to exaggerate his authority and his power over the boys. ‘Jack' points to Simon and the boys suddenly charge towards the camera. This gives the audience the impression that they are Simon, and that they can see the boys charging towards them, a technique which further emphasizes the terror that Simon is about to face. The camera then cuts to a close up of Simon screaming. His body is partly in shadow. As the boys stab Simon the camera withdraws giving the effect that the audience are so horrified and shocked by what the boys are doing, they have to back off for air. There is then a medium shot of the boys' backs whilst they are still stabbing downwards with their spears. There is a close up shot of Simon holding his arms up in terror This gives the audience the impression that they have rejoined the circle and are stabbing downwards at the ‘beast' (Simon) along with the other boys. The camera then sweeps slowly along the beach, as the boys force Simon into the sea. We then see a shot of the tide coming into the shore; the sea water is mingled with Simon's blood. The camera then pans to Simon's body, floating in the ocean. His body starts off facing upwards and slowly revolves round to hide his face. The director uses this as a sign of respect for Simon that the audience can relate to. Meanwhile, the gentle tranquillity of the ocean helps to calm the audience after the chaos and frenzy of what has just happened. The screen slowly fades to total darkness with only a faint outline of Simon's body in sight. Finally the screen begins to get lighter as flickers of phosphorescent light can be seen here and there. This gradually overwhelms the screen and adds to the audience's sense of peace and tranquillity. I will now give a detailed analysis of the sounds used in the scene depicting Simon's death. The scene starts off with a high pitched scream and then, gradually, screaming from different people can be heard. This reflects the terror that the darkness brings in the novel. The crackling of the fire can be heard now, along with the continuous screaming of he boys. The crackling of the fire intensifies to coincide with the, gradually increasing, screaming of the boys. The director uses these noises to remind the audience that these boys are ‘playing with fire' and that their activities are becoming increasingly more dangerous. The audience then hear a torch swing through the air and a storm beginning as it sends the waves of the ocean, whooshing up into the night. The audience then hear the torch sizzling as it hits the water. The director uses the boy, swinging the flaming branch about, to emphasise the idea that the boys are becoming more and more frantic and dangerous. The original screaming of the boys has now turned to cheering and the audience hear more branches being swung around. This gives the audience the impression that, although the boys were originally scared, they have now started to celebrate and to forget their original fears. The audience then hear the boys dancing and issuing tribal ululations between each other. The director has used this to coincide with the scene, in the novel, which represents the boys' downfall into savagery. The sounds in the scene once again shift to being more deadly and the audience hear the boys stamping their feet and banging their spears on the ground. The director does this so that the audience think of tribal drums and tribal celebrations. One of the boys shouts out ‘kill' and the mood of the scene becomes even more dangerous. The boys begin to chant the words; â€Å"Kill the pig! Slit her throat! Bash her in!† This chant starts off quietly and slowly and, gradually, with every repetition, getts faster and louder. This leads the audience to believe that something is going to happen. The beating of the ‘drums' starts to become hypnotic. The director does this to further indicate to the audience that something horrific is going to happen. The continuous cheering, chanting, beating and stamping interweave and become even more intense, giving the audience the impression of chaos and frenzy within the boys. Screaming is heard again which implies that the boys are becoming scared again. The, still ongoing, chant changes from â€Å"kill the pig† to â€Å"kill the beast†, and the boys begin to bang their spears together which once again adds to the tribal feel of the scene. The sounds become mingled now, and increase in tempo, which adds to the audience's sense of chaos. Then, as the camera first cuts to Simon, the tribal noises fade and become background noises; the predominant sound at this time, in the scene, is leaves being trodden on and being pushed out of the way. One of the boys shouts out â€Å"look† and all the other noises stop which gives the audience a sense of awareness. The same boy shouts out â€Å"the beast†, and there is once again complete silence. In this scene, this is a source of dramatic irony, because the audience know that it is Simon who the boys are referring to as ‘the beast'. This relates to the novel because the same dramatic irony is present when the boys first see Simon. The boys begin to scream as they charge Simon. These screams range from high pitched to low shouting. As the boys get closer to Simon, their screams get louder and more constant. There is one high pitched scream that stands out from the rest because it is almost girl-like. This scream belongs to Simon who realises what the boys are planning to do. The audience then hear short thuds and tearing. This leads them to the knowledge that the boys are brutally murdering Simon in a tide of chaos and frenzy. The high pitched screaming finally stops and the noise of the sea is heard in the background. Thunder can also be heard and there is a bloodthirsty repetition of â€Å"kill† by the boys. The noise of the boys slowly fades away which informs the audience that they are walking away from what they have just done. When the noise of the boys completely stops, the thunder and the sea can really be heard. There is then silence in the scene with faint and distant sounding choir music gradually getting louder. The choir music is harmonic and represents Simon's purity and innocence for the audience. Simon's death sequence ends with one clear, harmonic note from the choir that fades out slowly. In my opinion, the director of this film does create the chaos and frenzy within this scene as effectively as Golding does in the novel. The director's most successful part in this sequence is when Simon is killed and his body claimed by the sea. He recreates this part with the same natural and ‘lyrical' beauty which Golding uses in the book. The director's only unsuccessful part in the sequence is the storm as he starts it too late in the sequence, whereas Golding uses the thunder and lightning to work the boys up into a frenzy. He also does not, in my view, successfully recreate Simon's death because no film could recreate the savagery of the boys and the imagery which Golding creates in the novel through his language and description.

Technology Universities and Colleges 2019

There is a difference between technical schools and colleges and schools of technology. Technical schools are training centers that will prepare you for every career from auto mechanic, to food marketing, to truck driver. You may find a few technology-oriented careers available at a technical school such as software programming or you may not. Technology colleges and schools are either institutions that offer courses for technology-oriented jobs (i.e., computer network maintenance), or they offer full college degrees in information technology and computer science fields, or they offer both. CDI College is an example of an online college that offers certification training. They have a technology division with nine different academic choices for certification in the field of networking. They have five academic choices in the programmer/developer area, all of which are oriented to website development and maintenance. University of Phoenix Online offers a variety of technology degrees, ranging from an Associate of Arts in Information Technology to a Doctor of Management in Information Systems and Technology.
